A lifetime proponent of Individualism, Eric Corey Freed knew he
wanted to be an architect at the early age of eight. Promoting both
an organic and ecological approach to design, Eric wishes to provide
an alternative to what he calls the "harsh, style-driven fashions
that are so popular in design today." He is a practitioner in the
tradition of Organic Architecture, first developed by Frank
Lloyd Wright.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Eric attended Temple
University College of Architecture, graduating with honors.
While a student, Eric had the opportunity to focus his concentration
on Urban Design in Rome, Italy.
After several years working in both his hometown and in New York
City, Eric became very active within the profession. Philip Johnson,
noted architect and critic cited Eric as "one
of the real brains of his generation." In 1996, Eric accepted
a position in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he was able to focus on
his primary interest, Houses. While there, he had direct contact
with both ancient and the newest of environmental building materials.
Seeking to build his practice, Eric relocated to San Francisco in
1997 to develop roots and build upon his experiences.
Given his relatively
young career, Eric's work has been exhibited in an astonishing
wide variety of venues. Eric has worked directly on the design and
observation of dozens of houses for unique and wonderful people.
These homes stand as example of his thesis of "Individualist Architecture,"
stressing a natural and organic approach to design. He has been
a visiting critic at several schools of architecture and the recipient
of various awards and accolades. A member of the Friends
of Kebyar, Greenpeace
and ADPSR,
Eric is active within numerous other organizations and special interest
groups.
Eric believes Architecture should be a sculptural biography of
it's owners, a rich expression of Nature, ecology and a warm living
experience. He has successfully synthesized Individuality, Nature,
Geometry, Psychology and Architecture into a unique approach to
organic design and ecological harmony.
"Architecture is essentially human," states Eric Corey Freed, "it
is the manifestation of the human spirit and the expression of the
Individual and its surrounding environment."
Eric Corey Freed is currently seeking Individuals with whom he
shares these ideas and may work with to design their next dream
project.
